It started because we had no room.
NESTAX was not designed at a drawing board. It was designed at a desk in an attic, because Multitray, a tray manufacturer in Uden, had run out of space.
We wanted to move our own goods in reusable packaging. Steel cages were the obvious answer and they failed on four counts. We had nowhere to store them. They were too heavy for one person to lift. They barely stack. And empty ones brought a lot more trucks to our gate.
So we looked at renting from the pools. That needed a large float, it was heavy again, and then we did the sums: renting cost more than owning. That did not feel right.
What the problem actually cost us was a market. We decided not to enter fresh produce. Not because the market was not there, but because we did not have the right packaging for it.
So we stopped asking how long a transport system can live, and started asking how little space and weight it needs on the way home. That question turned into a system, and the system turned into a patent.

The field test taught us where the pallet design had to improve, and those changes are in production now. The sleeves came back without a scratch. That was the new part, so that is where the proof mattered.

NESTAX is developed by Spondaan B.V. in collaboration with Multi Tray B.V., a thermoformed packaging manufacturer in Uden, the Netherlands, supplying customers across Europe since 2010.
If it works for us, it works for everyone with the same problem. And there are more of them than you think.
